Here is a summary list of common Korean particles grouped by usage for beginner level complete with sentence examples.

Parts of Speech

Particle Usage Variation Example
-은 Marks Topic Ends w/ consonant 형은 키가 커요.
-는 Ends w/ vowel 언니는 공부를 잘해요.
-이 Marks Subject Ends w/ consonant 방이 넓어요.
-가 Ends w/ vowel 비가 와요.
-을 Marks Object Ends w/ consonant 저녁을 먹어요.
-를 Ends w/ vowel 차를 마셔요.

Listing items

-와 And (Formal) Ends w/ consonant 딸기와 사과를 좋아해요.
-과 Ends w/ vowel 가방과 지갑을 샀어요.
-(이)랑 And (Conversation) 친구랑 놀아요.
-하고 불고기하고 냉면을 먹어요.
-(이)나 Or 물이나 차 주세요.

Time & Place

-에 At (Place / Time) 내일 8시에 만나요. 동생이 미국에 가요.
-에서 At / From (Place) 무대에서 노래했어요. 집에서 나왔어요.
-부터 From (Time) 내일부터 공부할 거예요.
-까지 To (Place / Time) 7시부터 9시까지 일해요. 서울에서 부산까지 기차를 타요.
-(으)로 To / With / By etc. 오른쪽으로 가세요. 나무로 만들었어요.
-쯤 About (Time) 9시쯤 도착할 거예요.


-의 Someone’s (Possessive) 이분은 승규의 선생님이세요.
-에게 To/From (Someone) (Formal) 친구에게 인사를 했어요.
-한테 To/From (Someone) (Conversation) 오빠한테 할 말이 있어요.

Degree & Comparison

-도 Also 그곳에는 학생도 있고 회사원도 있어요.
-만 Only 1분만 기다려 주세요.
-밖에 Only (must be followed by negative) 음식이 조금밖에 안 남았어요.
-보다 Compared with 백화점이 시장보다 비싸요.
-처럼 Just like 연습 때처럼 하면 돼요.
-같이 Just like 배우같이 잘 생겼어요.
